The brief
The owners had lived with a stained dining room ceiling for two winters before anyone connected it to the bathroom above. The shower pan was a 1980s mortar bed over felt, and it had failed along the back corner.
Their brief was short: fix the leak properly, keep the original floor if we could, and make the room feel like it belonged to the house rather than to the decade it was last touched.
They found the leak in the first hour and then spent four weeks making sure it could never happen again. The floor is the original one. I still cannot quite believe it.
